Get into triathlon with the Vipers Beginners Squad on 16th Feb
Starting on Saturday 16th February the Vipers will be running a beginners squad where anybody who is interested in getting into Triathlon or improving their skills in a fun and relaxed group can get involved. You don't need to be fit (most of the group are worried about this) or own a fast bike. The program is managed by our head coach, Rowan Clarke, who will take you through an nine week training program finishing in a race on the Gold Coast on the 14th April.
You do not need to be fit, or own a good bike to join this course. If you want to get started and join a fun group, register and come along. This is an open social group where participants will support each other to learn the ins and outs of swimming, riding and running in style!
The full course includes, 9 weeks of training (up to six training session a week with the coach), shirt, Club membership, and BBQs for a cost of only $350. The Vipers are not for profit, and this money pays the coaching fees and costs of running the course - like BBQs and "free" shirts :)
To register your interest, or find out more information, please call Coach Rowan on 0413 667 639, email us at thevipers@viperstri.com or use register below.
What's involved in the squad
- Nine weekend sessions will focus on everything you need to get started in triathlons, plus mid week sessions on either swimming, riding, or running and will build your fitness and ability
- This is a separate group for all people who are just getting into the sport or want to try it out. Start together and support each other to complete.
- Guest speakers to talk about nutrition, looking after your body, bike maintenance, stretching, racing rules etc. We will post notes about who is coming when closer to the date.
- A BBQ or two to help you get to know your training buddies and talk about looking good in lycra
- 14th April graduation at one of Brisbanes best triathlons at the Luke Harrop Memorial Race on the Gold Coast. Short course 300m swim, 10km ride, 2.5 km run... Or long course if you're feeling super prepared!
- It's open to anyone to join. From total beginner to someone who has tried a few races. Z
- If you don't own a bike, please contact us and we'll give you some good advice and tips if you're looking to buy one or borrow a friend's.
- If you withdraw from the course early, we will refund a portion of your fees minus the costs the club incurred.
- The cost is $350 and includes all your coaching (six days a week for 9 weeks), membership, BBQ, and some vipers kit.
- Pool entry and race entry will be extra.
Getting started
- We can help you find or buy a bike. We partner with the Graceville Bike Shop and recommend contacting them for a new bike. If you want help checking a second hand bike please call us. We will be able to help you setup your bike and check over it at the first training session. Last year, some beginners started with a mountain bike and quickly swapped over to a road bike.
- You will need goggles, running shoes, and a bike.
- You don't need to be fit. This is a training program.
Schedule
Generally speaking the Saturday sessions will be your target sessions, and the mid week sessions will have some flexibility for you to mix and match according to your schedule. Speak with Rowan about what suits you, as we have a number of different sessions available if you can’t make these ones.
